Praise for Foop!
"Wild, fearless and wickedly clever, Foop! fireballs through time and space to find a future that is as absurd as it is heartbreaking. The more you read of Chris Genoa, the more you realize he's not content with just tickling your imagination along with your funny bone--gosh darn it if he isn't also making a play for your soul. Wonderfully dark. A terrific read. An inspired debut."
-NICK SAGAN, author of Edenborn and Idlewild
"Chris Genoa is one of our authentic literary lunatics, and the irrepressible Foop! offers irrefutable proof of his salutary madness. When they lock Genoa away in the booby-hatch, I hope they give him lots of pens and plenty of paper."
-JAMES MORROW, World Fantasy Award-Winning author of Towing Jehovah and Blameless in Abaddon
"Foop! is a surreal pie in the face."
-CHRISTOPHER MOORE, bestselling author of Fluke and Lamb
"For some reason, more and more young writers are producing dystopian novels. Chris Genoa rides the crest of this wave with weird humor, great characters, and descriptions of time travel so accurate that you'd think he's actually traveled through time. Well? Have you, Chris?"
-NEAL POLLACK, author of The Neal Pollack Anthology Of American Literature and Never Mind The Pollacks
"Chris Genoa's Foop! is a superbly surreal and wickedly wry rollick through the space-time continuum. With a talent for hyperbole reminiscient of the late Douglas Adams, Genoa stretches surreality to its snapping point and succeeds in delivering a hilarious debut novel."
-TONY VIGORITO, author of Just a Couple of Days
"Foop! is a surreal and often hilarious romp through the neuroses of the MTV generation, more similar to Fight Club and American Psycho than traditional science fiction--and it will likely develop the same cult following. Although Foop! borrows liberally from the tradition of Terry Pratchett and Douglas Adams, new author Chris Genoa is willing to take risks that set Foop! apart--such as beginning the book with a nonsensical sing-along overture...yanking the readers through hair-pin roller coaster corkscrews of lunacy...The hilarious first chapter alone is worth the price of the book...a new, innovative, clever author with a thrilling amount of potential: when he's good, he's so good that no one can touch him."
"Genoa's first novel is a seriocomic romp through time and space as his hero tries to save the world from losing both its future and past. A procession of oddball characters, including a blind monkey and a quirky pair called Boogedy and Nibbles, adds to the humor in this tale of a reluctant hero and his call to duty."
-Library Journal
"I must say this was the weirdest book I have ever read...The whole book is just crazy, bizarre, at times insane, but it is definitely something I couldn't put down...By the end of the book, I was wondering what paths I have chosen and how my choices have affected others...a definite must read."
“Time travel, dystopias, robots, other planets, aliens. All these archetypes of science fiction--along with cigarette-smoking monkeys--make their appearance in one fashion or another in Foop! ...a satiric social commentary on a wide range of issues, including, but far from limited to, religion, the "progress" of man, and individual existence in an increasingly impersonal world. Foop! is a comedic and at times scatological look at where the Earth may be headed and why.”
"Genoa offers a wild ride on the wacky side of SF, the outpourings of a highly creative mind."
-BookLoons.com
"The character of Mr. Burk is truly hilarious...there are plenty of neat ideas, both with plotting and characters...the artwork by Chris Daily is spot on."
-SFcrowsnest.com
"Genoa is adept at raising a chuckle. In fact I had to catch myself laughing aloud on occasion, with his irreverence and sense of the absurd."
-YetAnotherBookReview.com
"This could well be the most surreal book I have ever read."
"This debut by a writer who combines the whimsical with the capricious, science fact with science fiction, has an allure for any reader who has ever been desirous of finding him/herself in another time, in another place, with a chance to re-visit a fine memory or be a part of some historical event."
-Curled Up With a Good Book
"Sometimes disjointed, sometimes hilarious, but always intriguing--this is a roller coaster ride of a read."
