Galley Ho!
Oh joyous day! The Poof! galleys are in!
For those of you who don’t know what a galley is, it’s basically an advance copy of a book for reviewers, potential blurbers, and people who Chris is secretly in love/lust with. The Poof! cover you see up there in the corner of this site is the galley cover, and like everything else about the galley, will change in the final edition. One day, many years from now, the galleys may be collector’s items, fetching ridiculous sums on ebay. Or they might be used for kindling to start a fire to warm a group of dirty children wearing tattered clothes and speaking with Australian accents in a post-apocalyptic world. Who’s to say, really?
As the UPS truck passed by the apartment this afternoon, on its way to make deliveries on the opposite side of the street first, Chris bolted out the door after it. He chased down that thing in the same determined manner in which he chased down many an ice-cream truck in his youth. Except this time visions of parading galleys took the place of parading Choco Tacos in his mind. The brown shorts clad UPS man was so shocked when Chris jumped on the truck’s windshield that he nearly crashed into an oncoming bus and had to swerve violently to avoid disaster.
Back at the apartment, Chris tore the box open with his teeth, tenderly picked up one of the perfectly stacked books, smelled it deeply, licked it scandalously, kissed it sweetly, threw it against the wall violently, and then went into the bedroom, locked the door, and sobbed for hours.
Such is Chris.
If you are fortunate enough to have a Poof! galley on its way to your door, I wish you happy reading.
If you don’t have a copy on its way, I invite you to email me at pepino@chrisgenoa.com and tell me why you deserve one. You must move me. You must make me feel something. Whether that’s pity, fear, joy, or what have you, is up to you.
